Employment Services

All businesses deserve to hire employees that genuinely care about their work and the company that employs them.

Overview

All businesses deserve to hire employees that genuinely care about their work and the company that employs them. At New Horizons, our Employment Services Program places individuals in jobs in Prince George’s, Charles, and surrounding counties, while providing training and support developed to promote behavior in employees that make them an asset wherever they are hired. Our employees have proven to have lower rates of absenteeism and greater longevity on the job than most other employees—and they project a positive, enthusiastic demeanor and strong work ethic.

Vocational Assessments

Vocational assessments are conducted to help individuals with disabilities determine their strengths, needs, interests, and preferences with respect to their vocational success and independence. Assessments are conducted in either real or simulated work environments to assist with an individual’s career planning.

How can we work together?

We currently partner with many businesses and volunteer opportunities within the community to provide a variety of competitive competencies, whether within recycling, churches, nursing homes and senior centers, retail stores, or otherwise. Individuals in our program attend ongoing classes aimed at developing skillsets and techniques to develop growth and maintain longevity in their employment.

Supported Employment

The Supported Employment Program assists adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities with securing and retaining employment. Whether a paid or volunteer position, we focus on person-centered opportunities, confirming for each participant employment that meets that person’s strengths, interests, and passion.

Through thorough assessment, training, and job coaching, the individuals in the Supported Employment  Program gain valuable skills to serve them vocationally as well as socially. Each person is able to work toward living and working independently, with emphasis placed on finding employment that suits their ability and preference. We’ve seen this program, in conjunction with hard work and determination, be the vehicle for success in achieving capabilities.

We provide supported employment services throughout Prince George’s and Charles Counties at our offices in Cheverly and Waldorf. In addition to the SE Program, we also provide a comprehensive, educational program through our Work Adjustment Training, as well as support young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities transitioning from public high school into an employment setting.

We are thankful for the collaborations that make New Horizons so successful in serving the disability community, especially with the following organizations:

  • Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS);
  • Charles County Department of Health; and
  • Board of Education in Charles, Calvert, St. Mary’s, and Prince George’s Counties.
